Julieta Benavides
“Until the papers separate us”
Julieta Benavides arrived in Vancouver in search of a better job market where dreams come true, and magic dominates the scene. She came to study animation in 2022.
Julieta, a talented artist who shares her talent on social media, arrived with a suitcase full of the dreams and hopes that emigrating and youth bring. But like many immigrants, she encountered the doors of uncertainty, the only ones that are always open for the immigrant along with the future that is traced on papers that never arrive.
Living with the constant work that is the search for a new balance, between here and there, missing, family, food and discovering new friendships and flavors. The constant question arises: Should I go back?
Julieta continues on this migratory journey, reminding herself that she is not alone, that every change is a grief that must be overcome and lived because what is left behind are bonds, pieces of her history and herself. But those pieces are a fundamental part of the new stories she is creating, the new bonds and friendships she builds day by day. Allowing her to discover a part of herself that was hidden.
